Polygreen’s Just Go Zero Program implementation was crowned with success at the first “green” Authentic Marathon of Athens

As the exclusive supporter of the environmental program of the Authentic Marathon of Athens, Just Go Zero by Polygreen undertook the collection and management of waste and other materials throughout the duration of the event; from the Marathon Expo, that took place on November 9-12, to the starting point and the finish line of the Authentic Marathon, on November 13. The recorded results were nothing less than impressive, with a total amount of 12,470 kg of collected materials.

Recyclable Materials:

The amount of recyclable materials collected from the Just Go Zero recycling points installed at the EXPO, the starting point and the finish line of the Authentic Marathon race, was significant:

  • Plastic: 7,897 kg
  • Paper: 2,190 kg
  • Wood: 1,352 kg
  • Aluminum: 34kg

The recycling of all materials at the Polygreen’s certified facilities in Aspropyrgos, Attica, will result in saving energy equivalent to 54,833 kWh and reducing CO2 emissions by 59,13 kg.

Organic Waste:

The organic waste produced at the Marathon Expo amounted to a total weight of 351 kg. Upon collection, it was transferred to Polygreen’s MegaECO certified facilities where it will be converted into 193 kg of compost.

The conversion of organic waste to compost diverts the amount of biowaste deposited to landfill leading to the minimization of environmental impact. Also, the compost reduces the use of harmful mineral fertilizers.

Clothing:

Athletes and visitors of the Marathon EXPO responded to the open call of Just Go Zero, for collection of clothes and shoes that they no longer use, resulting to:

  • 33,4 kg of clothes
  • 72,5 kg of shoes

Just Go Zero by Polygreen also collected all clothing that were left behind at the starting point of the Authentic Marathon race by the athletes, a total amount of 540kg!

All pieces will be forwarded for reuse and upcycling.

Athanasios Polychronopoulos, CEO of Polygreen stated “With the participation of Polygreen and Just Go Zero in the 39th Authentic Marathon of Athens, a new day begins for the circular economy in Greece. Just Go Zero is here to change both our mindset and habits that effect environmental protection. The impressive results of our activity prove that every material is valuable and recycling can contribute in shaping a better future for everyone.”
